Materials

  • Natural objects: rocks, twigs, leaves, grasses

  • Trays, carpet squares, or paper plates for sorting

  • Experience chart paper

  • Markers and crayons

  • Lesson script

    Steps

    1. Introduction & Exploration (10 minutes)

      • Provide one type of natural item (e.g., various rocks).

      • Let students freely explore and brainstorm all the different ways it could be used.

      • Record their ideas on a chart.

    2. Sorting Activity (15 minutes)

      • Present a mix of natural objects.

      • Encourage students to sort them in as many different ways as they can (by size, shape, color, texture, etc.).

      • Offer tools like trays or paper plates for organizing.

    3. New Sorting Challenge (10 minutes)

      • Challenge students to sort the objects in a completely different way than before.

      • Offer suggestions if needed, or refer to the experience chart.

      • Invite students to collect more items from an outdoor area if possible.

    4. Creative Art Extension (15–20 minutes)

      • Ask: “How can we use these objects to create something beautiful?”

      • Let students create rubbings, mobiles, collages, or other artistic expressions using the materials.

      • Display their creations in the classroom.

    5. Wrap-Up (5 minutes)

      • Reflect on the different ways students sorted and created.

      • Ask: “What did you discover about these objects? What surprised you?”
